Geman Antique Model 1871 Single barrel 38 Cal Pistol..

There is a RESERVE of $200 on this Antique - NO PAL is required for this gun.

A great single barreled pocket percussion pistol was made in Germany, very much
in the French / Belgian style. These were quite popular for self-protection.
It is quite utilitarian in design, without any engraving so it was probably intended for
domestic use.

The smoothbore barrel measures 3.5 inches in length, and does have the interior
grooves on the inside used to unscrew the barrel for loading
The barrel is currently frozen in the receiver.

Markings: The right side of the frame and barrel is marked with CROWN / CROWN /
U, a proof only used by Germany starting in the second half of the 19th century.
There is also serial number that looks like 97 on the bottom of both barrel and frame.
The top of the barrel has faintly the loading specifications, which were required to
be stamped on all German guns after 1871, with previously made guns that were
resold requiring remarking. The markings read: 2gr N.G.P. M/71 and below 6gr Bl.

These give the loading specifications for both the Model 1871 Neues Gewehr
Pulver and the standard Black powder in use before.

The pistol measures 8 1/2 inches overall, the only other markings we can see is two
lines on left side of frame.
The pistol features a very nice wooden bag style grip, which is very comfortable to
hold, though it is definitely simplified, without any scallop ornamentation along the
frame. There is an area that is carved out of the handle for a name plaque that is
missing.. see pictures

Overall Condition of the pistol is fair, showing a lovely polished steel finish, with
some areas of past peppering, now cleaned. Hammer will cock and dry fire, but
cap nipple does show some past corrosion..

A very nice early Victorian Era German self defense pistol, ready to Display!
